Winter is well on its way and so are its makeup trends. From this season’s statement lip(s) and experimental liner to the tried and true natural you, we’ve got you covered for Winter 2016-2017’s top trends. Let’s take a look:
Black is the New Black
With deeply dark and daring mouths displayed at Rodarte, Marni, Bottega Veneta, and Erdem, dramatic hues were unquestionably this fall and winter’s lip statement. The most striking of all were the lacquered black-cherry pouts at Louis Vuitton and Dior, according to Vogue UK and we can’t argue. This blackcurrant lip will take us straight into spring 2017.
Outside the Lines
Creativity ran wild at the autumn/winter 2016 fashion shows with bold and inventive graphic black liner looks. Black remained the classic color, but Altuzarra, Kenzo, Oscar de la Renta, and Giamba demonstrated makeup artists’ brave and experimental choices, drawing far outside the lines to create their own this upcoming season.
Glitter, Glitter Everywhere
Girls can be thankful this Thanksgiving that glitter is on tap this winter. It’s EVERYWHERE, in fact. Burberry was perhaps the last place anyone would expect to see the sparkle, but there it was, reported Vogue UK, “the brand’s new Shimmer Dust diffused from the outer corners of the eyes across the cheekbones.” Glitter was also “on show on the brow bone at Giambattista Valli, right across the face at Opening Ceremony, at the inner corners of the eyes at Kenzo and around the eyes at Jenny Packham,” according to Vogue UK. And how could we forget Pat McGrath’s wine-stained, glitter-pressed lip for Atelier Versace’s couture show in Paris? With glitter now in every woman’s purse—or at least in every woman’s mind—this holiday season is sure to have a little extra sparkle.
And for those who like to play the understatement as a statement, virgin skin is one of this winter season’s hottest trends. Vogue UK reports, “At Valentino, Pat McGrath used iridescent powder on the cheekbones, eyelids and cupid’s bow, whilst at Gucci and Prabal Gurung, the freshest of skin was finished off with a radiant peachy glow.” Minimalism and natural glow will take center stage this holiday season. Three cheers for clean, healthy skin!
